Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa concludes working visit to Namibia on energy alliances and security

Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister of Electricity and Energy of South Africa, has just concluded a very productive working visit to the Republic of Namibia, marking a significant step towards further strengthening regional energy cooperation.

Engaging in strategic discussions with Hon Natangwe Ithete, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mines, Industry and Energy of Namibia, the short visit deepens existing bilateral relations and enhances our energy collaboration.

The visit underscored the importance of maintaining existing Power Supply Agreements with NamPower and emphasised the importance of regional energy collaboration and cooperation. This co-operation is critical as it plays a critical role in ensuring energy security in both countries.

Furthermore, the discussions explored opportunities for joint investments in cross-border transmission infrastructure, aligning our efforts with South Africa’s Transmission Development Plan. The shared commitment to the Southern African Power Pool will facilitate harmonised technical standards and bolster energy security across the region.

This bilateral engagement supports South Africa's strategic priorities, particularly in achieving regional energy security and asserting the leadership role in the continental energy landscape. Our collaboration with Namibia not only enhances our energy infrastructure but also helps us confront common challenges with respect to developments in the field of energy and related industries.
