UK extends its energy sanctions against Russia’s oil firms
(MENAFN) The United Kingdom has broadened its energy-related sanctions against Russia’s largest oil companies, Lukoil and Rosneft, by targeting their international collaborators, according to government reports.
The updated measures impose asset freezes and limit services and transportation associated with the two firms, which were already subject to sector-specific sanctions. Rosneft-owned, controlled, chartered, or operated vessels are now prohibited from entering UK ports, while aircraft connected to the company are barred from flying over or landing in the country.
“At the same time, we are ramping up pressure on companies in third countries, including India and China, that continue to facilitate getting Russian oil onto global markets,” stated British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves during a visit to the US.
The sanctions specifically target Indian company Nayara Energy, a private Indo-Russian venture in which Rosneft holds a 49% stake. Chinese firm National Pipeline Group Beihai Liquefied Natural Gas has also been listed due to its dealings with vessels under British sanctions.
Additionally, 51 oil tankers belonging to what the UK describes as a Russian “shadow fleet” used for crude transport have been added to the sanctions list.
The restrictions further extend to Russia's National Payment Card System and several banks, including Transstroibank, Primsocbank, BBR Bank, and Solid Bank, due to their involvement in sectors deemed strategically important to the Russian government.
